The National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) has completed the reconnaissance survey of the 800 kilometers Iran-Pakistan Pipeline project on Pakistan's side. Sources in Nespak told Business Recorder that the experts' team after successfully completing the reconnaissance survey has arrived.
"The team has demarcated the possible corridor in which the detailed topographic survey would commence in October this year. In addition to this, Geotechnical investigations for soil and rock would also commence parallel to this" sources added. The team was comprised experts in the field of Geohazard, Geotechnical, Environmental, Hydrology and GIS.
The Reconnaissance which started on July 11, 2011 took almost 27 days to complete. The team used helicopter service in last two days to visit Kirthar ranges and Hingol National Park areas due to inaccessibility to cover on foot. The most difficult areas would be again investigated using high resolution satellite images and other latest techniques using GIS.
Pakistan will import 750 million cubic feet of gas daily for 25 years from Iran, according to the terms of the agreement. The pipeline will facilitate transfer of natural gas from Iran's biggest gas field in South Pars to Pakistan through the south-western Balochistan province. All the data would be compiled and report to the Ministry would be submitted in October, showing the final route corridor. Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain has recently stated that his ministry wanted to complete the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline project as early as possible.
