Suo motu proceedings adjourned to August 15

A full bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary here Thursday adjourned to August 15 the suo motu proceedings and petitions moved against the felling of trees on Lahore canal banks for widening a three and half kilometres road.
The court would take under consideration the report presented by environmentalist Dr Pervez Hassan on the environmental effects arising out of the cutting down of trees. The report was presented to the court by Dr Hassan and recommended treating nice old and historic trees, which are national heritage and add to beauty of the city besides serving towards environmental safety. On the occasion, NCA students, petitioners Lahore Conservation Society, Shajardost and others appreciated the idea of declaring the trees national heritage.
