Peshawar bus terminal redesigning to be expedited

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Information and Transport, Iftikhar Hussain, has directed the transport department to expedite work on PC-1 for redesigning of Peshawar bus terminal and called for taking immediate steps for provision of security and cleanliness in the terminal.
He issued these instructions while chairing a meeting of the Road Transport Board (RTB) here on Friday. Secretary Transport, Zafar Iqbal also attended the meeting. The meeting discussed matters relating to transport sector and strengthening of the newly created transport department.
The minister said that the terminal would be designed on modern lines with multi-facilities, adding that the board's income would be spent on renovation and upgradation of the terminal. He directed for installation of central exhaust system in the terminal's main hall, opening of canteen, renovation of the waiting room of the passengers and special uniform for the management and administration of PBT.
The minister also asked for creation of additional posts as per requirement of the board with special post of female security guards. Iftikhar said that the board has acted as policy making forum and stressed the need of activation its for speedily implementation of various transport projects. Unfortunately, he said, the functions and powers of transport department had been divided in the past, and added that it should have more empowers to make it an income generation body of the province.
