Power situation registers stability for second consecutive day

Power situation registered stability for second consecutive day amidst marathon meetings of policymakers on the subject in the capital. Heavy rain cooled down temperature substantially, bringing the demand down to 17554MW amidst rise in generation to 14732MW, leaving the system with a manageable shortfall of 2822MW.
It may be noted that both the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had taken serious notice of Pepco's failure in ensuring uninterrupted power supply during Sehr and Iftar since the start of Ramazan. Accordingly, a high-level committee was formed to look into the reasons of loadshedding. Sources said the committee members have taken the heads of DISCOs to the task and made it clear to them that no negligence would be acceptable from now onwards. Also, the issue of circular debt was taken up by the committee, listening to the IPPs and a strong commitment to resolve their issues.
Meanwhile, power generation improved impressively on all counts. The hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs stood at 5910MW, 2085mw, 6596MW and 141MW. Power supply to the KESC was recorded at 650MW.
