US Ambassador Cameron Munter called on Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar at the Foreign Office Wednesday and asked for early recovery of Warren Weinstein, an American citizen kidnapped from his Lahore residence on August 13. According to the Foreign Office, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and underscored the importance of Pak-US strategic relationship based on mutual respect and mutual interests during the meeting.
But diplomatic sources said besides other issues of mutual interest, the US ambassador also conveyed Washington's concerns over the abduction of an American citizen from Lahore. They said Munter demanded early recovery of Weinstein and the Minister for Foreign Affairs assured him that the government of Pakistan was making all-out efforts and the investigations were under way to ensure early recovery of the US citizen. "Both sides agreed on the need for greater engagement to strengthen Pak-US co-operation in various fields and for enhanced convergence on regional issues," the Foreign Office said.
