At least five persons of a family on Thursday stifled to death by a lethal gas in the remits of Maripur police station. According to police, the incident took place at house no 1837, Greek Mohalla, Muslim Colony of Maripur where five family members were suffocated by a lethal gas produced from a generator.
Police said that as like others, the ill-starred family used generator to meet the energy demand during load shedding but the machine caught technical faults and produced lethal gas, which left Anwar, 70, son of Behram Khan, Zubaida, 50 wife of Anwar, 25-year-old Tahira daughter of Anwar and her two nieces Maya, 4, and Neha, 3, died.
They said the police on the information of inhabitants recovered the bodies and sent these bodies to hospital for autopsy. Moreover, they said the deceased kids were living with their grandparents as their parents had gone abroad for business purpose.
Meanwhile, SHO Idrees Alam said although the evidences are showing that all family members fell victim to the lethal gas produced from a generator even then the police department has initiated probe to ascertain the veracity of the facts.
