Essential commodities maintain low tone, other items rise modestly with global trend

Essential items generally kept low tone, while others rose modestly on the commodity wholesale markets mostly in line with global trend during the week ended on August 20.
Opening day saw prices mostly lower on the wholesale grain markets said to be due to regular supplies Irri 6 Sindh low type rose by Rs 75 to 3750, while the other was up Rs 100 to Rs 3850, cotton cakes Sindh with bag up Rs 100 to Rs 3850, cotton cakes Sindh with bag low type rose by Rs 30 to Rs 1210, while the other picked up Rs 35 to Rs 1225, wheat old and new with bardana lost Rs 50 to Rs 2550 and Rs 2565, Gur low type was put at Rs 6800, while the best type lost Rs 100 to Rs 8300, grains Australia No. 1 shed Rs 50 to Rs 4800 and Rs 5000, gram Australia dal No 1 shed Rs 200 to Rs 5900 and Rs 6100, gram Australia No. II shed Rs 100 to Rs 4650 and Rs 4850, gram Australia dal No. II shed Rs 200 to Rs 5800 and Rs 6000.
On Tuesday til and gur rose, while moong and guwar showed weakening tone. Moong Punjab conceded Rs 100 to Rs 7000, barley Sindh and Mardan quoted higher at Rs 2800, gur low type was put at Rs 6800, while the other gained Rs 200 to Rs 6550 and Rs 6650. On the Jodia Bazaar Kirana items (per 40 kg) white pepper rose by Rs 22 (Rs 2200) to Rs 34800, black pepper Singapore rose by Rs 200 to Rs 24,500 black pepper from Ceylon rose by Rs 2000 to Rs 24500, black pepper from Brazil rose by Rs 5000 to Rs 28000, mace pushed higher by Rs 4000 to Rs 108,000 nutmeg rose by Rs 4000 to Rs 40,000, big cardamom turned lower by Rs 500 to Rs 92,000, cloves rose by Rs 3000 to Rs 56,000, copra from India conceded Rs 600 to Rs 70,000 dry ginger from China rose by Rs 300 to Rs 15,000, long pepper shed Rs 1000 to Rs 14,000, peanuts rose by Rs 100 to Rs 4800, sago shed Rs 50 to Rs 2950, cuminseed rose by Rs 400 to Rs 12,900 and coriander seed gained by Rs 200 to Rs 200.
On Thursday traders strike led to low actuality as Irri 6 Sindh shed Rs 25 to Rs 3700 and Rs 3800, cotton cake with bag in Sindh quoted at Rs 1100 and Rs 1200.
On Friday no business was reported as almost all participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday thin business was seen as most of the buyers were sidelined partly because of city's disturbed law and order situation. Wheat old Bardan and wheat new Bardan both gained Rs 10 to Rs 2560 and Rs 2575. Gur better type rose by Rs 200 to Rs 7000 and inferior quality dropped by Rs 100 to Rs 8400, other items maintained overnight levels. Cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh low type gained Rs 70 to Rs 1170 and good type shed Rs 35 to Rs 1190. Irri-6 Sindh low type retained overnight level at Rs 3700, while the better type was down by Rs 50 to Rs 3750.
