Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has urged upon the private sector to play its instrumental role in expanding education on the basis of no profit no basis and ensure equal opportunities to the privileged and unprivileged segment of the society.
Addressing the management and staff of ILM College on Sunday here she said that it is a vivid fact that private sector was playing pivotal role in providing facilities of education but it was very unfortunate it had become commercial and only privileged class was availing the facility. The Federal Minister underscored the need of collective efforts for the promotion of education on non-commercial basis aimed at providing even opportunities of education in the country.
The provincial government institutions particularly education had become stooge and failed to disseminate the quality services among the masses she said. The Minister appreciated the ILM management for taking initiatives for setting up college in remote area and expressed the confidence the institution will play its instrument role in spreading education in the area.
The government is working to increase literacy rate in the country to divert energies of youth towards healthy activities and to eliminate menace of terrorism. We want to give pen in hands of youth instead of suicide jacket she said. Dr Firdous assured that full co-operation and support would be extended to ILM College to the status of university level.
The Information Minister urged upon the non-governmental organisations (NGO's) and philanthropists that they should come forward and establish educational institutions in neglected and downtrodden areas of the country and bestow opportunities of education to poor segment of the society and to own sponsorship of deserving students.
Emphasising on the female education, Dr Firdous said women could play vital role in the development process, which will ultimately track the country on the road to success and prosperity. She said that there was a great potential in Pakistani women to cope with the certain challenges but it is regretted that they were being deprived from facility of education.
Dr Firdous stressed upon the parents that they should concentrate on educating their daughters not only for their bright future but also steering the country out socio-economic crisis.
The Information Minister said that some anti-state lobbies had created chaos and butchering the innocent people in Karachi just for their personal gains. In fact, these lobbies were trying hard to weaken Pakistan economically by creating disturbance and law and order situation in Karachi but all such conspiracies would foiled with the support of the masses and miscreants would be dealt with iron hands she said. The Information Minister vowed law and order would be maintained at all cost in Karachi to ensure life and property of the masses.
She said anti-state lobbies were trying to create disturbance through their evil designs just to destabilise Pakistan economically but failed their nefarious designs.
Federal government will extend full support and assistance to Sindh government for maintaining law and order in the province. In his address of welcome Principle ILM College W.B Gill said that all out efforts would be made for providing quality education.
