THE RUPEE: dollar moves both ways

The rupee moved both ways against dollar on the currency market on Wednesday, dealers said. The rupee recovered another 14 paisa in relation to dollar for buying at 86.77 and gained 15 paisa for selling at 86.81, they said.
Moody's downgraded Japan by a notch to Aa3, blaming large budget deficits and the build-up of debt since the 2009 global recession. Still, such cuts have had scant effect on yields as the vast bulk of Japanese debt is owned by the Japanese themselves.
The dollar was available against the Indian rupee at Rs 45.62, the US currency was trading at 2.9690 versus the Malaysian ringgit and greenback at 6.3884 in terms of the Chinese yuan. Interbank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Wednesday: 73.45/73.85 (previous 73.90/74.12). Call Money Rates: 12.00-18.00 percent (previous 8.00-15.00 percent.

According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its overnight closing of Rs 86.60 and Rs 86.90 on buying and selling side, respectively. In the absence of buying support, the dollar could not sustain and declined to Rs 86.60 and Rs 86.80, respectively, the dealers said.
The rupee-pound sterling parity also stayed unchanged amid low trading trend in the open market. The pound was traded at Tuesday closing of Rs 142.70 and Rs 143.50 on buying and selling counters, respectively, the dealers added
The dollar opened at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling) against the last week's rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling) against the overnight value. British currency did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling).
