Permanent rehabilitation: government considering strategy for deserving persons

Punjab Zakat and Ushr Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran has said that the government is considering a consolidated strategy for launching schemes for permanent rehabilitation of deserving persons, which will soon be implemented. He also said the government does not want to make deserving persons beggars; it wants to restore self-respect by providing respectable jobs and make them an important member of the society.
He was addressing a meeting of chairmen of district Zakat committees of the province here on Wednesday, disclosed an official. Secretary Zakat and Ushr Nazir Ahmed, Administrator Zakat Punjab Muhammad Yousuf Butt and Deputy Administrator Zakat Field Rana Muhammad Sajjad Babar were also present on the occasion.
The Minister directed the chairmen to utilise all their resources by providing subsistence allowance, zakat and educational scholarships to religious seminaries and deserving persons. He said provision of Zakat to the deserving is their religious and moral duty; therefore, they should perform it efficiently.
According to him, instructions have been issued to district Zakat Officers of the province to keep close liaison with their respective chairmen and extend all possible co-operation to them. Approval has also been sought for distribution of Eid grant and subsistence allowance among deserving in the recent meeting of Provincial Zakat Council and funds have also been released. The chairmen should distribute this financial assistance among deserving people before Eid.
