Libyan embassy flies rebel flag

26 Aug, 2011

The Libyan embassy in Pakistan has raised the rebel flag, in an apparent sign it has shed its allegiance to former ruler of Libya Moamer Qadhafi. The flag with red, black and green stripes and a white crescent and star is now being hoisted at the embassy in posh sector F-10 sector.
Despite several attempts, no official at the embassy was available for comment on the change of flag. Even, Pakistan' s foreign office was also unaware of the change of flag. "We have not received any official intimation to this effect," foreign ministry spokeswoman Tehmina Janjua said in a weekly briefing to media persons on Thursday.
Several Libyan embassies around the world have flown the rebel flag since fighters opposing Qadhafi's regime entered the capital, Tripoli, on August 21. However, it has been reported that the Libyan ambassador said that the decision to change the national flag was made five days ago with the consent of the embassy staff.
