Empowerment of women and support to them to take part in the industrial and economic activities is imperative for economic growth of the country, said Samina Fazil, President Islamabad Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) on Thursday.
"Women can play an active role in the economic revival of Pakistan if they are trusted and given proper opportunities", Samina said while addressing the gathering after officially inaugurating two-day 'Young Women Entrepreneurs Eid Expo' at a local hotel. Women showcased garments, leather goods, jewellery, handmade embroidery, dresses, decoration pieces, traditional pots, and bridal accessories in the exposition.
She said that such events provide chance to reflect on the role that women entrepreneurs play in the economy. She said that delivery of national goals could not be achieved unless the growth of women is seriously focused. "All resources would be utilised to empower young women entrepreneurs and help them in their activities," she added. She further said that women entrepreneurs in the informal sector also need our attention. "Our chamber will provide all possible facilities to business women", she promised.
Lauding the initiative of young women entrepreneurs, she said that such initiatives should be lauded by the business community and supported by concerned government departments. She said that strong skill development of women is the key to economic wellbeing and such creative events are imperative for development of women entrepreneurs. She observed that women are more focused on garments, fashion, jewellery and beauty salons, ignoring many sectors that badly need their attention that include branding, advertising, e-marketing and start making personal, business and product profile to boost businesses.
IWCCI president advised the organisers of the expo, including Dr Laila Hassan and Mariya Mehsud, to expand their relations and businesses with the help of such events. She said that women have the potential to get their skills in this challenging environment.
