The Indian government in Indian occupied Kashmir has decided to free political detainees arrested under the draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA) on Thursday. According to Kashmir Media Service, Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani called for peaceful agitation, if political prisoners are not released by Eid-ul-Fitr.
The review committee headed by Principal Secretary of the Home Department, BR Sharma, has recommended release of two close associates of Gilani, Ghulam Nabi Sumji and Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and 10 other detainees. They are Qazi Yasir Ahmad, Bashir Ahmed Mir, Ghulam Muhammad Bangi, Mushtaq Ahmed Nalband, Bilal Ahmed Hajam, Gazanfar Ahmed Hajam, Muhammad Iqbal Naikoo, Nissar Ahmed Thoker, Rouf Ahmed Bhat and Shabir Ahmed Batloo. Sharma told media men that each case of PSA detainee was examined in detail and after thorough deliberations the committee recommended their release.
