It is heartening to note the arrival of the Army chief in violence-torn Karachi where he reportedly met heads of security and law enforcement agencies during a briefing on the city's situation.
He is said to have reiterated his institution's position in relation to the situation by saying that the Army could provide its services to the government in restoring peace in the country's largest city, if and when called for. On the other hand, the Supreme Court of Pakistan is hearing a suo motu case on the Karachi situation. The Sindh government has also launched a targeted surgical operation with a view to overcoming the seemingly formidable challenge posed by the wave of unprecedented mayhem in the city.
The above developments clearly indicate the fact that the situation cannot be allowed to deteriorate any further and a resolution must be forthcoming without further delay. Hence the need for more concerted efforts aimed at bringing normality back to Karachi. Efforts must be taken to ease the suffering and pain that the people of Karachi are enduring without any further loss of time.
