40 more suspects held in overnight search operations

Sindh police claimed on Friday to have detained 40 more suspects during the overnight search operations conducted at various troubled areas of the city and recovered weapons and drugs from their possession. The operations were conducted at Bilal Colony, Chakra Goth, Pak Colony, Nashtar Road, Rexer Bridge, Old Golimar, Jahanabad, Saleh Muhammad Goth and Gatar Baghicha.
Police sources said the law enforcers had started house-to-house search initially from Bilal Colony and later extended it to many other areas of the city. They said the LEAs had detained 20 suspects from Bilal Colony and Chakra Goth while the other suspects were detained from Pak colony, Nashtar Road, Rexer Bridge, Old Golimar, Jahanabad, Saleh Muhammad Goth and Gatar Baghicha.
Sources said the suspects, who were said to be extortionists, drug peddlers and other criminals, had been transported to unidentified location for interrogation. They further said the law enforcers had also recovered weapons from their possession. Advisor to Home Minister Sharfuddin Memon said the police had detained dozens of suspects. He said the names of the suspects would be disclosed after formal interrogation.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of Pakistan Rangers confirmed that the rangers had detained 20 suspects from Bilal Colony and Chakra Goth. Although the Sindh police claimed to have detained over 100 suspects with weapons in the ongoing search operations in Karachi, which were launched on August 23, 2011 with the assistance of Sindh Rangers, it has yet to disclose names of the arrested persons.
