Not many of us are aware but in one way or other we all have been charging our phone batteries the wrong way, which lead to shortening the battery life.
Business Insider reported a company Cadex, which offers devices that test smartphone batteries, listing few point on its Battery University website, informing ways to correctly charge the phones.
Charge your phone a little at a time
Plugging our phones for longer periods of time won’t do any good. As per the website, “Partial charges cause no harm.” Thus, we should charge our phones little at a time, whenever we have the chance.
Do not completely discharge your phone before charging it
According to Battery University, a thing called ‘deep-discharge’, when a phone’s battery level is completely drained, wears down the batteries. Therefore, we should plug in before the battery reaches the red warning.
Try keeping the battery level between 65% and 75% or 45% and 75%
Research suggests that maintaining the phone’s battery charging from 65% to 75% will help battery last long. However, if you can’t do this, then try keeping the battery charging between 45% and 75%
Never charge a battery completely
One should never fully charge a battery, especially from a low charge percentage. For example, charging your phone from 25% to 100% can decrease the battery’s capacity and also cut down its duration.
“Lithium-ion batteries do not need to be fully charged, not is it desirable to do so. In fact, it is better not to fully charge, because a high voltage stresses the battery and wears it out in long run,” says the website.
Don’t charge the phone overnight
This is probably one of the mistakes most of us do. This habit cause harm to the batteries. The problem here is not overcharging but instead it is the heat, as overnight charging can lead to overheating of the batteries.
It’s okay not to unplug the charger once it’s done
It is safe not to charge the phone overnight, however, if you still do, the good news is that modern chargers these days automatically turn off once the battery hits 100%, so don’t worry about removing the charger.
