Rain-hit districts: no 'abyana' to be collected, says Soomro

04 Sep, 2011

Minister for Law and Industries, Muhammad Ayaz Soomro has said that funds have been released to the DCOs of 12 rain/flood-affected districts of the province. The officers have been directed to provide relief and foodstuff to flood victims without delay.
He said that due to heavy rains crops have been totally damaged in the districts and thus land revenue and abyana (water tax) will not be recovered from the 'abadgars' of such areas. He said that the present government believes in the independence of judiciary to provide relief and justice to the people at the grass root level.
He expressed these views while addressing a dinner party hosted by Advocate Kalpna Devi in the honour of newly elected body of Larkana High Court Bar Association at Circuit House, here last night. The minister said that the democratic government is striving to provide funds to various bars at the district and 'taluka' level in the province. Besides, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Lawyers Colony has been established in Larkana and funds are being released in this regard to District Government Larkana, while Peoples Lawyers Colony will also be established at the district level.
