Lums orientation week for the new batch of undergraduate students commenced on Tuesday. The day is being organised with the aim to familiarise the freshmen students and their parents with the campus and its policies. The first day of the week began with a welcome address by the Vice Chancellor, Dr Adil Najam.
This was followed by an overview of the undergraduate programme and a tour of the campus for the new students' body and their parents. On the occasion, a 'department fair' was also organised wherein the attendees enthusiastically scanned numerous stalls and exhibits put up by the various academic and administrative departments and students societies at the institute.
Later, the students and their parents attended presentations about the undergraduate programmes offered at the institute. At the Q/A session, deans of the three schools of Lums answered the queries of the students and parents. This was followed by the 'ice breaking session' conducted by senior students to help freshmen settle in.
The first day is mainly for parents to be aquatinted with the environment their children are to spend the next four years in. A series of events are planned for the subsequent days, such as welcome sessions from the various academic departments, session on values and ethics, art competition, sports gala, scavenger hunt, presentations from various student societies and a talent show to help students settle down at the new campus with ease. The orientation session will continue till September 6, 2011.
