Two ATR planes of PIA on Saturday made emergency landings as one engine of each plane failed during the flight. An inquiry is being conducted to investigate the incident. On Saturday morning, PIA's ATR plane (flight No PK 501) was on its way to Muscat via Tubat from Karachi. After 30 minutes, it developed a fault in one of its engines.
Therefore, the pilot decided to return Karachi, as there exists no flight engineering facility at Turbat airport. Flight PK 501 made an emergency landing at Karachi airport and all 20 passengers besides the airline crew were safe. In the evening, another PIA's ATR plane (flight 508) was on its way to Karachi from Panjgoor when it had to make an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport after one of its engines failed during the flight. All passengers and crew of this flight were also safe.
A PIA official said one faulted plane had already resumed its operation while the other was being inspected by the PIA's engineers. According to him, both planes have the required ability to make a safe landing even in the event of complete engine failure. Therefore, it was a special landing, not an emergency landing. However, he said an inquiry was being conducted to determine how the two planes faced a similar problem the same day.
