Only New Delhi can repeal black laws: Sagar

05 Sep, 2011

The puppet Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar has admitted that the ultimate authority to revoke black laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), lies only with New Delhi.
The Omar Abdullah-led regime can only recommend to the Indian government for repealing the black law like, Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the occupied territory, Sagar told a local news agency while reacting to Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement that this power lies with Omar Abdullah in Kashmir, KMS reported on Sunday.
Though the Omar Abdullah's regime can review the Disturbed Areas Act, the ultimate authority to revoke it lies with New Delhi, Sagar added. About the removal of the AFSPA in the territory, Chidambaram had said that once the authorities in occupied Kashmir decides that the Disturbed Areas Act should go from a certain area, AFSPA would automatically cease to remain in force there.
