Torrential rains: Qaim hints at seeking help from UN

Chief Minister, Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that Sindh has received historical torrential rains, causing devastation in 21 districts of the province. He informed that federal government, on the recommendation of Sindh government, is now seriously considering appealing United Nation to tackle rain devastation and help the affected victims of the province.
This he said while presiding over a meeting of officers of District Administration, public representatives and notables of District Tando Allahyar at the DCO's secretariat. Keeping in view rain devastation, the CM declared the district 'calamity-affected' and announced Rs 20 million grant to carry out relief and rescue operation there. He informed that 46 rain related causalities have been reported so far while standing crops in million acres and people in millions have been affected due to the heavy rainfall. He further said that district Badin and other parts of coastal areas are the worst affected.
Qaim said that district relief committees comprising of the DCOs concerned and public representatives have been constituted for each district to ensure transparent utilisation of relief fund and monitoring the survey work. He warned the officers to provide all facilities to the rain victims, failing which strict action would be taken against them. He said that many officers have been suspended due to their negligence and no one would be spared in the future, whosoever he may be.
