President, CoAS discuss Karachi situation

President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani discussed national and strategic issues confronting the country on Tuesday at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The CoAS discussed with the President the security situation in the country and Asian region.
Sources said that important strategic issues including situation in Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA) and Afghanistan also came under discussion. Sources said that before leaving to meet the President, the CoAS had taken briefing from Karachi Corps Commander and Sindh Rangers DG on the Karachi situation.
They said that Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Zaheer-ul-Islam and DG Rangers Sindh Major General Ijaz Chaudhry met CoAS in the GHQ and apprised him about the law and order situation in Karachi. Industrialists of Karachi have joined the political parties and the civil society organisations in calling for Army's intervention in Karachi.
