Islamabad Police submitted challan against Anjum Aqeel Khan, MNA of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and 32 other persons in escape case from police custody. The prosecution presented the challan in the Court of Muhammad Akram Awan, Judge of Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No 1, Rawalpindi, and pleaded that Anjum Aqeel was arrested in connection with Rs 6 billion National Police Foundation land scam by Shalimar Police and during his shifting to police station PML-N workers attacked on police party and helped Anjum Aqeel escape from police custody.
The Court has distributed the copies of the challan submitted by Islamabad Police among accused, those who were present in the courtroom. The judge ruled that the accused would be chargesheeted on September 19, the date of next hearing. Aqeel was arrested by Shalimar Police on July 15 in the wake of Supreme Court of Pakistan's orders for resolving multi-billion land scam of National Police Foundation.
But his supporters attacked on the police party and took away the MNA; however, due to mounting pressure Anjum Aqeel surrendered after 24 hours. Anjum Aqeel has been charged under Section 780-A of the Anti-Terrorism Act, a non-bailable offence, and not under the Pakistan Penal Code. Police registered cases against the accused, PML-N MNA, under 12 different sections including Terrorism Act.
