Until now, Samsung used to be the only provider of Apple’s iPhone X’s OLED displays. Looks like this is going to change, as LG Display will also provide these OLED displays to Apple starting this year.
The South Korean smartphone manufacturer LG might start to ship OLED displays to Apple in the second half of 2018. Rumors also indicated that LG will get a fair share of Samsung’s cut in providing the OLED displays.
Apple dependent on Samsung for its new iPhone
Outsourcing the displays to both Samsung and LG, reports suggest that Apple will soon finalize the deal with LG and the company will provide around 15-16 million screens for this year’s Apple’s iPhone X Plus in the second half of 2018. Though LG was the supplier for Apple’s LCD screens in iPhone 8 and 8+, Samsung Display used to be sole provider of iPhone X’s OLED displays and shipped over 50 million OLED displays to the company, reported Tech Juice.
The Investor reported that according to sources, for the three iPhones expected to release this year, LG Display would probably manufacture the iPhone with 6.5-inch OLED screens, whereas Samsung Display will produce smaller 5.8-inch or 6-inch OLED panels for the other two iPhones. The production of the screens by LG Display will begin in the second quarter at LG’s E6 plant in Paju, South Korea.
