Time's up: Mehwish Hayat brings anti-harassment movement to Pakistan

After the famous Hollywood #Metoo campaign gained momentum in the country, Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat brought #Timesup campaign to Pakistan too, in a bid to bring an end to any kind of harassment that women face.

Time's up movement ruled the Hollywood red carpet at recently held 75th Golden Globes. The campaign was initiated this year, after the #MeToo campaign in 2017. As part of the campaign, actors and actresses wore all black to the 75th Golden Globe Awards and spoke about sexual harassment and assault.

On the same context, Hayat took to social media and shared her picture wearing black dress to express solidarity with the cause. “It is time for women of the world to stand up for their rights,” the caption reads.

Pakistan has a high rate of sexual harassment cases, many of which are not even reported. Cases of sexual abuse surface from time to time not only of women but of minor girls too. One such incident is the recent rape case of a minor girl that has shaken the entire girl. Seven-year-old Zainab from Kasur was kidnapped, raped and murdered. Her body was found six days after she went missing. The incident has led to protests across the country.
