Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday claimed to have nabbed seven officials belonging to Foreigners' Registration Branch Karachi (FRB), Sindh Home Department (SHD) and Karachi Passport Office (KPO) for illegally extending the visas of Indian nationals.
According to sources, FIA team arrested seven officials of aforesaid departments. They said the accused persons were allegedly involved in extending visas of Indians, illegally. Senior officials of FIA Human Trafficking Unit confirmed the said arrests, saying that two officials of KPO namely Aslam Baig, Habib ur Rehman and a travel agent Mehmood Ali were arrested from KPO the other day. They said these detained persons during initial course of investigation revealed that some more officials were also involved in this racket.
Reacting to their information, FIA team conducted a raid at passport section of SHD and arrested superintendent monitoring cell Naseem Siddiqui and stenographer Noor Muhammad Shah. He said two more officials of FRB Khursheed and Ghulam Mustafa were arrested at Shahrae Faisal.
They said the records including those relate to British, Malaysian, Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani passports with extended visas and other suspicious documents were taken into custody. They said these accused were allegedly involved in extending visas of Indians without completing legal formalities just to earn undue gains.
They also expressed fear that Indian spies might have entered the country with the assistance of these officials, creating serious security threats to the country and added that these accused persons were also involved in human trafficking through Wagah.
