Commodities prices fluctuate moderately based on demand/supply factor

Wheat, Irri rice and some Chinese chemical items rose while gur, khandsari steeply down seen on the commodity wholesale market during the week ended on October 22, 2011.
On Monday wheat old and new bardan rose by Rs 5 to Rs 2630 and Rs 2645, gur better type was higher by Rs 200 to Rs 7500, while the other type was unchanged at Rs 6500, rice Irri -6 Sindh rose by Rs 75 to Rs 3350 and Rs 3375, Irri white broken lost Rs 250 to Rs 2500, while the other type lost Rs 200 to Rs 2600. Cotton cakes with bag Sindh low type shed Rs 50 to Rs 1050, while the other variety dropped Rs 100 to Rs 1100. On Jodia Bazaar dry fruits (40-kg) Kaghzi II rose by Rs 1000 to Rs 8000, walnut in shell I was down by Rs 2000 to Rs 8000 and Rs 14000, walnut in shell II rose by Rs 6000 to Rs 14,000, walnut kernel was quoted at Rs 24,000 and Rs 36000, raisin green rose by Rs 1000 to Rs 11,000 and Rs 24000 and pistachio lost Rs 4000 to Rs 5200.
On Tuesday prices stayed subdues - with exception of wheat old and new bardan, which gained Rs 5 to Rs 2636 and Rs 2650, gur low type conceded Rs 500 to Rs 6000, while the other quality was unchanged at Rs 7500. Irri 6 Sindh lost Rs 25 to Rs 3325 and Rs 3350, cotton-seed cakes with bag Sindh lost Rs 50 to Rs 1050 and Rs 1150.
On Wednesday gur fell sharply by Rs 1000 to Rs 5500, while better type was down Rs 500 to Rs 7000, Khandsari lost Rs 500 to Rs 7500, yellow peas Canada lost Rs 50 to Rs 3950 and Rs 4150, yellow peas Canada dal was quoted down by Rs 50 to Rs 3450 and Rs 4550, yellow peas Ukraine lost Rs 25 to Rs 3775 and Rs 3975, yellow peas Ukraine dal lost Rs 50 to Rs 4250 and Rs 4450, Irri-6 Sindh shed Rs 25 to Rs 3300 and Rs 3325, cottonseed oil cake with bag Sindh was down by Rs 50 to Rs 1000 and Rs 1100. On Jodia Bazaar chemical item (per kg) caustic soda flakes Saudi was quoted at Rs 75, N.J. Taiwan down conceded Rs 4 to Rs 231, formic acid Germany shed Re 1 to Rs 115, oxalic acid China rose by Rs 17 to Rs 110 and citric acid China shed Rs 4 to Rs 118. Petroleum Jelly: white Iran was quoted at Rs 45 and sulpharic acid soft rose by Rs 26.40 to Rs 180.40 and caustic Taiwan was quoted at Rs 75.
On Thursday Irri-6 Sindh shed Rs 25 to Rs 3275 and Rs 3300, til low type dropped Rs 100 to Rs 3400, while inferior type was down by Rs 100 to Rs 3400, while the other type was unchanged at Rs 3600, cotton-seed cakes with bag in Sindh shed Rs 50 to Rs 1040 and Rs 1050, wheat old and new bardan rose by Rs 5 to Rs 2640 and Rs 2655.
On Jodia Bazaar Kirana items (per 40 kg) nutmeg was down by Rs 2000 to Rs 34,000, big cardamom rose by Rs 6000 to Rs 75,000 cloves conceded Rs 3000 to Rs 58000, Copra shed Rs 300 to Rs 6300, dry ginger China shed Rs 500 to Rs 15,500, isbaghol bhoosi shed Rs 1500 to Rs 19,500,sago conceded Rs 50 to Rs 2900, and communised lost Rs 500 to Rs 13500. On Friday rates were stable, as almost all the participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday some business was seen. Wheat old and wheat new (Bardan) was higher by Rs 20 to Rs 2660 and 2675, other commodities maintained overnight levels due to balanced demand and supply. Grams yellow peas Ukraine was up at Rs 3750-3950, bajra, however, shed Rs 50 to Rs 2400-2800. On the rice sector, prices came down modestly, as according to a news Pakistan, the world's 12th largest producer, is forecast to export 4.5 million tonnes of both basmati and white rice next year, up 28.6 percent from 2011. The parboiled rice at the same quality with Thai or Vietnamese rice is in demand, but the price is about 200 dollars a tonne lower, causing an attraction for the importing countries. Irri-6 Sindh low type drifted lower by Rs 75 to Rs 3150, while the best quality was down by Rs 100 to Rs 3200. Cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh low type fell by Rs 40 to Rs 1040 and better quality was down by Rs 50 to Rs 1050 due to higher-than-expected production.
On Jodia Bazaar jute goods twine ended down. The variations were: JUTE GOODS TWINE (Per kg): 20x3 brown went lower by Rs 2 to Rs 96, 16x3 CRT/Indus moved downward by Rs 2 to Rs 96, 8x3 finished lower by Rs 5 to Rs 140 and 40x2 brown was quoted at Rs 92.
