Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) Punjab has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Begum Nusrat Bhutto, the country's first lady from 1973 to 1977. The PPP top leadership in Punjab said Begum Nusrat Bhutto belonged to a well-to-do Iranian business family and she became the country's first lady when Z.A. Bhutto assumed power soon after the dismemberment of the country.
The statement further added that Begum Bhutto served the country inspired many strengthening young nation's will to survive despite the odds-a fact recognised and acknowledged by both Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah and Begum Liaquat Ali Khan. PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich said the PPP would continue with the mission of Bhutto family of changing the plight of poor Pakistanis under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered a 10-day period of national mourning. The government had announced public holiday on Monday.
