PML-N slams proposed gas supply cut in winter

25 Oct, 2011

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday expressed concern over the proposed curtailment of gas supply to the industrial sector for three months during winter, fearing the decision would have serious consequences. The government due to severe gas shortage is likely to decide three-month cut in gas supply to industrial sector during winter.
"The government decision to suspend gas supply to industrial sector for three months would have serious consequences," warned Ahsan Iqbal, PML-N's deputy secretary-general. He said people were already facing serious problems due to price-hike and poverty, which Ahsan said was result of the alleged corruption, incompetence and wrong priorities of the rulers.
He was of the view that the government, on one hand was urging each foreign visiting delegation for market access while on the other, the proposed suspension of gas supply for three months to the industrial sector would bring the industrial wheel to a standstill. He said it will not only cause cut in domestic production, but also lead to massive unemployment.
Ahsan further said people were already forced to pay high price for shortage of compressed natural gas (CNG) and the decision, if taken, would put further burden on the inflation-stricken masses. Referring to PML-N's October 28 "Go-Zardari Go Rally" in Lahore, he said the participation of masses in large number would reflect the public sentiments, which according to him expose the alleged government malpractice and corruption through blue-eyed persons.
The PML-N leader said the rulers have to resolve problems of the masses otherwise, with each passing day would bring difficulties for them to remain in power. He lamented that PML-N has given a 10-point agenda to steer the country out of the prevailing crises, which unfortunately was not taken seriously by the government.
