Chairman, Pakistan Denim Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PDMEA), Khalid Majeed has appreciated Dr Asim Hussain, Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources for his efforts to meet the energy requirements of the industry. The industry is facing serious challenges of energy shortfall, causing massive production losses.
In this scenario of energy crisis, the PDMEA, as a short-term strategy, recommends to allow and open import of LPG and LNG by private sector with multiple operators, enabling a true competition environment in the spirit of free market economy. No monopoly scenario should be allowed by any individual or company, as fuel is a source which should be cheaply and freely available to the entire industry and consumers.
It said "We at PDMEA are against the monopoly for the import of LPG and LNG by any single company or group in Pakistan. In the past, Competition Commission of Pakistan fined some companies for their monopoly in LPG and LNG business. PDMEA supports the policy of ministry of petroleum and natural resources for free import of LPG and LNG to meet the energy shortfall in the country on most priority basis, it concluded.
