Islamabad College of Arts and Sciences (ICAS) in collaboration with the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) organised the "UN Day-Planting Peace" aimed at providing a platform to students to discuss and recommend solutions to issues of concern being faced the world over and, in particular, how to promote peace.
The event held here on Friday was presided over by Alfredo Leoni, the Ambassador of Brazil to Pakistan attended by Mazhar Qayyum Awan, Director, Alumni Affairs, and United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP). Christina Afridi and Saba Raisani were the judges for the event. Attended by 200 people with 100 students representing approximately 44 countries UN Day saw students dressed in the national costumes of countries assigned to them and presented creative ways in which their country could promote peace in the world.
"It gives my immense pleasure to be at the event and represent Brazil, one of the most peaceful countries in the world," the Ambassador said. USEFP Educational Advisers guided students on the benefits of pursuing their higher education in the US along with providing overviews on application procedure, scholarship opportunities and free advising services being provided to students across through USEFP centers in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.
Mazhar Awan encouraged students to consider the US for their higher education. "Since its inception 60 years ago, USEFP has fostered mutual understanding between the people of Pakistan and the United States through educational and cultural exchange," he said.
