The Sindh Home Department on Saturday lifted ban on public rallies and processions in the metropolis. The ban, which was lifted for two days, will be effective till October 31. According to the notification, religious rites, funeral processions and those who have taken special permission from the Home Department are exempted from this ban.
It is pertinent to mention here that this was the second notification issued by the Home Department on Saturday, which earlier had issued a notification for extending ban on public rallies and processions for a month just to support MQM's rally, which is going to be held on Sunday (today) at M.A. Jinnah Road in favour of President Zardari.
Later the department has issued another notification for lifting the said ban in the city for two days. The Home Department had imposed ban on rallies and processions on September 28. Strict security measures are being taken to avoid any untoward incident during MQM's rally. Heavy contingent of law enforcement agencies including police, special protection group, rapid response force and rangers have been deployed on the routes leading towards M.A. Jinnah road.
