AIOU to set up open schools, 3,000 community libraries

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will establish Open Schools and 3,000 Community Libraries across the country to eliminate illiteracy from the country, said Vice Chancellor AIOU Professor Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi.
Addressing as a chief guest at a function organised by Muslim Aid (UK-based relief and development agency) under the theme of "Universal Primary Education Delivering the Second Millennium Development Goal," he said that AIOU is one of the mega universities of the world, the door of this mega University is open for every citizen.
He said the university remained always at the forefront at the time of need. A scout force would be formed with the help of two million students and teachers across the country to play dynamic role in rehabilitation activities at the time of disasters, he observed. AIOU has waived off full fee of Matric, Intermediate, BA and B.Ed programmes for the Semester Autumn, 2011 for the flood affected students of Balochistan and Sindh and 50 per cent fee concession had also been granted in the remaining programmes.
