Musharraf not been officially entertained: US

31 Oct, 2011

The United States had said that the former president Pervez Musharraf was a private citizen and did not meet any American official at the State Department. Spokesperson of the State Department, Victoria Nuland avoided any comments on Pakistan's internal politics but said Musharraf had not visited the department.
"I am not going to get into Pakistani internal politics. My understanding is that Musharraf has not been in the Department," the spokesperson said when asked about Musharraf's visit to the United States during which, he had been seeking support for a political future of his party in Pakistan. However, she said, some personnel of the Department have attended the events at Washington think tanks, where Musharraf spoke. Nuland also gave no importance to Musharraf's criticism of the current democratic government's performance, saying "he is a private citizen. His views are his own obviously."
In answer to a question about Afghanistan, the spokesperson noted that the United States wanted all of its neighbours to work toward peace, security and stability in that country.
