The rupee extended its overnight gains versus dollar and euro in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee rose by 58 paisa in relation to dollar for buying at 85.90 and picked up 52 paisa for selling at 86.00, they said.
The Australian dollar fell after country's central bank cut interest rates by 25 basis points to 4.5 percent, with interest rate futures suggesting investors were bracing for further easing.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 48.69, versus the Malaysian ringgit at 3.0930 and it was at 6.3480 in terms of the Chinese yuan.

According to the currency dealers, the dollar remained under pressure and further declined against the rupee. At the end of trading, the dollar was closed lower at Rs 86.00 and Rs 86.50 against the overnight closing of Rs 86.30 and Rs 86.80, respectively, the dealers said.
However, the rupee remained unchanged on buying side, while it was declined on selling side in relation to the pound sterling. The pound was traded at Rs 137.20 and Rs 138.00 on buying and selling counters, as compared to day earlier closing of Rs 137.20 and Rs 137.70, respectively, the dealers said.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 87.60 (buying) and Rs 88.05 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 87.60 (buying) and Rs 88.05 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 137.80 (buying) and Rs 137.90 (selling) against the overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 137.80 (buying) and Rs 137.90 (selling).
