Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) has completed its first quarter of collection of Sales Tax on Services (SToS) on 31st October 2011, within the period of three months from 1st July to 31st October, it has collected Rs 6 billion, Business Recorder learnt on Tuesday.
SRB had started its work from 1st July 2011, with passage of Sindh Sales Tax on Services Act 2011, from Sindh Assembly; it has successfully completed its first quarter of collection of SToS despite many hurdles created by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Provincial tax-collection-body has been collecting the SToS of October 2011, in the current month of November. It has to collect the Rs 25 billion in the fiscal year of 2011-12. In this connection, the spokesperson of SRB has told Business Recorder that SRB has collected Rs 1,956,010,715 of SToS from the Telecommunication sector, Rs 1,054,483,447 from the Ports, Rs 1,123,656,912 from the Insurance companies and Rs 597, 384,370 from the Banks.
He said that the collection of Rs 249,788,576 has been made from the hotels, restaurants and clubs, Rs 135,601,449 has been collected from the Courier services and Rs 141,435,339 has been collected from the Non-banking Financial services. He further told that Rs 30,660,372 has been collected from the Franchise services, Rs 32,254,632 has been collected from stockbrokers and brokerage, Rs 10,736,091 has been collected from the Shipping agents and Rs 12,155,293 has been collected from the Media and advertising agencies.
Rs 15,320,359 has been collected from the stevedores, Rs 14,727,425 has been collected from the custom agents, Rs 5,182,704 has been collected from the freight forwards, Rs 327,117 from the transportation and Rs 72,011,315 has been collected in the head of others, he added. The spokesperson said that more than 3,000 taxpaying companies and individuals had enrolled themselves at SRB within the period of four months and this process is still continue on daily basis.
He advised taxpayers for filing of their returns at SRB as soon as possible. He said that SRB is new-born institution of Sindh government so that our motive is to facilitate taxpayers in every matter related to taxation. He thanked to all taxpayers who have been deposited their taxes to SRB and hoped for further co-operation in future as well.
The spokesperson said that though, last date of depositing the SToS of September 2011 has been expired but the individuals and companies related to all services can deposit their taxes any time through SRB's online system and authorised branches of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), he concluded.
