Kenyan tea prices edge down

04 Nov, 2011

The average price for top grade Kenyan tea edged down to $2.92 per kg at this week's sale from $2.99 per kg last week, brokers said on Wednesday. Mombasa-based Africa Tea Brokers (ATB) said 120,105 packages were offered with good but irregular demand. About 17 percent of packages on offer received no bids.
Last week 121,437 packages were offered with 13,498 left unsold. Tea is a major export for the east African country, and is expected to fetch a record 106 billion shillings in 2011, up from 97 billion shillings last year.
