Ana Ivanovic celebrated her 24th birthday on Sunday with a comfortable 6-3, 6-0 victory over Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues in the final of the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions. The Serbian former world number one and crowd favourite maintained the upper hand in the match, hitting aces and breaking the Spaniard's serves to claim the crown on the Indonesian resort island of Bali.
Medina Garrigues executed several spectacular rallies but despite her best efforts was no match for her opponent's "solid" playing. "I don't feel good about the way I played today, but Ana was playing so good I couldn't do too much," she said. "She didn't feel the pressure and was playing good, solid," she added.
Ivanovic on Saturday thrashed Russia's Nadia Petrova 6-1, 7-5 while Medina Garrigues won her semi-final against Germany's Sabine Lisicki, who retired with a back injury with the score at 6-3, 4-6, 4-0.
She won the first-round quarter-finals Thursday when her opponent Marion Bartoli pulled out with an ankle injury, having made match point several times. Petrova defeated Daniela Hantuchova, who replaced Lisicki for the match, in the third-place playoff 6-2, 5-7, 6-0.
