Syed Munawwar Hassan, Amir Jamaat-i-Islami, has said that if the way of the dacoits and plunderers to power was not obstructed, the country would have to face fresh crises in the days to come. Addressing the Eidul Azha congregation at Mansoora mosque, he said that fair and impartial election were the only way to get rid of the corrupt politicians.
However, this required proper awakening of the masses. The electorate must be made to realise that the politicians whom they had been electing time and again had not given anything to the common man but had only been plundering public wealth through fair and foul means.
The nation on the other hand, was facing problems of inflation, law and order, unemployment and loadshedding. He deplored that the present elected government had proved to be more loyal to the US than Pervez Musharraf. The Parliament had been reduced to a rubber stamp as the executive was not in a mood to act upon the Parliament's unanimous resolutions, he remarked.
The JI chief said that awarding India the Most Favoured Nation status meant negation of the huge sacrifices made by the Kashmiris for their freedom. He doubted US intentions to withdraw from Afghanistan by 2014. It was also being said that after Afghanistan the US would turn to Pakistan as it wanted to grab Pakistan's nuclear assets besides making India a mini super power and restricting China's growing influence in the region.
The JI chief said that the Afghans should be left free to decide about their country. He held the US responsible for the current wave of extremism and terrorism across the world and its aggression on the Muslim countries. Referring to the changes in Tunisia and the situation in Syria, Libya and Egypt, he said that people had come on the roads for a positive change.
