The senior most Judge of Peshawar High Court, Shahjehan Khan has resigned in protest after the appointment if Justice Dost Mohammad Khan as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan had elevated as Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court in 2009 by superseding Justice Shahjehan Khan, sources said.
Later, speaking at an emergency press conference at his residence on Thursday afternoon, Justice Shahjehan Khan termed the "blocking" of his promotion for the second time a violation of Supreme Court rules. He said that it was totally unfair and unjust. Being the senior most Judge in the country, he said it was his right to become Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court. "I am going to tender resignation as the Judge of Peshawar High Court," he announced. He said that he had already sent his resignation to President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.
