Renowned TV, film artist Shafi Muhammad remembered

Pakistan's famous TV, Radio and Film artist Shafi Muhammad Shah's 4th death anniversary was observed on Thursday with tributes paid to his best performance in the industry. He was born in Kandiaro, in Naushahro Feroz District, in Sindh in 1949. He started his career as a broadcaster at Radio Pakistan Karachi. Later he moved to Lahore and lived at the home of Mohammad Ali and Zeba for few years. There he started his movie career.
He became famous after doing few leading roles in Ashfaq Ahmed's series 'Ek Haqeeqat Sau Afsaane'. In early 80s Shafi worked in a very famous serial 'Deewaren'. Shafi featured in more than 50 drama serials and over 100 long plays on PTV and other channels. PTV's play Urta Asman, directed by Shahzad Khalil, had his debut performance. Teesra Kinara was his first popular television play that Shafi became a household name.
He earned accolades for his acting skills in many plays, especially Chand Girahan, Dairey, Aanch, Bund Gulab and Mohabbat Khawab Ki Surat. Shafi Muhammad had acted in all mediums of entertainment, from radio, theatre to films and television. Shafi Muhammad had worked in very limited films. His first film as hero 'Biwi Ho To Aisi' was a diamond jubilee film, but he had a very short film career.
Here is his filmography: Biwi Ho To Aisi (1982), Aisa Bhi Hota Hai (1984), Naseebon Wali (1984), Talash (1986), Muhib Sheedi (1992), A Sindhi language film Ilzam (1993). He was given the Best Actor Award by Pakistan Television in 1985 and was also awarded the Pride of Performance Award by President of Pakistan. He died on 17 November 2007 at the age of 57.
