Holding cellphone data amounts to facilitating criminals: SHC

A division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday took strong exception of the conduct of cellular companies regarding provision of data, required for investigation of cases.
The bench comprising Chief Justice of SHC Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi in a case of missing person was informed by the concerned official that certain calls have been detected in respect of Muhammad Shahid but required date could not be collected from the cellular companies who declined to provide the same.
The bench observed that in many petitions it has been observed that the conduct of the cellular companies is in fact facilitating the criminals by holding such information from the Law Enforcement Agencies. The bench put off hearing of the petition moved by Razia, wife of the missing person Muhammad Shahid till November 30, 2011.
