The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Friday directed law officer to apprise about investigation entrusted to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) by a bench of the LHC in late 90s with regard to assets accumulated by politicians by November 28. The court issued this order on an amended petition filed by a bar member Iqbal Jafree who said on his petition a LHC bench had ordered freezing of assets owned by former two times prime minister Benazir Bhutto (late) and his husband Asif Ali Zardari.
However, he said, after military coup in 1999 his petition was transferred to another judge who without disposing of the case directed the NAB to hold investigation on the matter. But the investigation was never completed, he added. Barrister Jafree pleaded that proceedings in his petition should be restored and the NAB be directed to complete the investigation. Petitioner also included the names of PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan and many other politicians in the list of respondents.
