Khyber Pakhtunkhwa senior minister and PPP leader, Rahimadad Khan said on Sunday that country can't afford to repeat 1990's politics and expressed the optimism that PML-N would support the government to carry forward the process of democracy and strengthen democratic institutions.
"The repetition of 1990 politics will be extremely unfortunate for the country in general and democracy in particular. In the past, we have seen that wrangling between democratic forces had only encouraged undemocratic forces. As a result, democracy had suffered," he said.
"Only one and half year is remaining in general election and opposition including PML-N should wait till 2013 polls and the verdict of masses would be wholeheartedly accepted by all," the PPP stalwart added. To a question about political temperature in the country, he said it would be eased down after the senate election. He said holding of public rallies and meetings was the beauty of democracy but it should be done under ambit of the Constitution.
To a question about PPP position in South Punjab in wake of resignation of former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the minister said South Punjab was the bastion of PPP and his resignation would not affect on its vote bank at all.
"I think Shah Mehmood Qureshi had showed hurry in tendering resignation and if he had any objection or reservation over any issues, he should have talked to the party leadership," he said.
He said like Shah Mehmood several people in past had left PPP but our party remained intact and their resignation could not harm the party's vote bank at all. The history reveals quitting PPP was tantamount to political obituary for the politician.
Rahimdad said the workers of PPP gave preference to completion of the mission of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and they won't be indulged in the politics of blackmailing and confrontation.
