PESHAWAR: Women legislators in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Monday condemned the inhuman incident of rape and murder of a seven-year old girl in Kasur and demanded special legislation to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents in future.

The matter was raised in the house by Nighat Yasmin Orakzai of PPP through a point of order.

The PPP parliamentarian also mentioned the incident of Kainat, another five-year old victim, and said such incidents reflect the distortion of society.

She said eight months were passed since a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was constituted for the inquiry of the incident, but the beast involved in the crime was still at large.

Nighat Orakzai said for the last four years they were demanding legislation for controlling such incidents as other provinces had already promulgated laws in this regard.

Uzma Khan of JUI-F reminded that in the wake of the resolution of the Nighat Orakzai, the house had constituted a committee regarding sexual harassment of women in higher education institutions.

She held the society responsible for incidents like Kasur, Mardan, Nowshera and D.I. Khan.

She said the provincial government by excusing the shortage of funds had closed down Child Protection Units in 12 districts. She said in the last session of the house they had demanded the presentation of report on the issue of women in the house, but the report was not presented.

Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli of the QWP termed the incident highly condemnable and demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in it.
