Farmers are advised to irrigate the just sown wheat crops as per need due to a dry weather is likely to prevail in most parts of the agricultural plains of the country. "Wheat cultivation is mostly completed in the agricultural plains of the country. Normally, first irrigation is given after 20-25 days of sowing," the Met Office asked the farmers in its fresh advisory.
However, the advisory suggests the farmers of irrigated plains of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to complete sowing till December 15, 2011, with a view to produce maximum yield. "In case of late sowing, the recommended verities should be cultivated to minimise the loss in yield," it adds.
In its rain forecast, the office says upper Punjab and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces are expected to receive isolated rainfall during November 28-30, 2011. However, weather in these provinces would remain mainly dry, it says. Weather in Sindh and Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, it forecasts mainly dry weather is expected to remain in the next 10 days. But, isolated rainfall in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan is expected during November 28-30, 2011.
Temperature is likely to remain normal in most parts of the country. However, parts of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Punjab may experience 2-3 degree centigrade below normal night temperatures from November 28 to 30, 2011, the Met Office says.
