Call to equip students with necessary skills

Renowned industrialist and LCCI former president, Mian Anjum Nisar has urged the government to focus on equipping the students with right skills and knowledge, as maximum utilisation of human potential is key to success and a necessary ingredient to making Pakistan a developed country.
He was speaking as guest of honour at Convocation 2011 of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology. He said that in the knowledge race in the 21st century and rapid globalisation, the quality of higher education has to be enhanced on par with international standards for the sake of progress and prosperity. With a view to achieve the goal, the government would have to spend more on education, as the existing budget is too meagre to produce desired and required results, he said.
Mian Anjum Nisar said that it had now become very important to do all possible to help the next generation as today they are competing with the students from the developed world when they enter into the job market. "Right out of the gate of their Alma Mater, our students face altogether new challenges, therefore they must be equipped well to cope with these challenges and for the purpose the educational institutions must continue to review and upgrade their curricula.
He said that the educationist must stay in touch with private sector to get a feedback on upcoming industry requirements regarding new hiring. The curriculum should be designed in proper consultation with the private sector that has both the ability and the capacity to guide the educationists in right direction. He said that in today's world the Information Technology is of utmost importance, in the job market the people having knowledge of computers are given preference over those who are without it.
Mian Anjum Nisar paid rich tributes to the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology for initiating Dual Degree Programme in collaboration with international universities. Speaking on the occasion, Rector COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Dr S M Junaid Zaidi and Director Lahore Campus, Dr Mehmood Ahmad said that in 10 years time COMSATS Institute of Information Technology has attained the status of an institution of international standard. For this, the credit goes to all the faculty members who are well versed with global requirements and familiar with the changes happening at international education front.
