PMA holds demonstration for recovery of kidnapped doctors

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) held a protest demonstration on Wednesday outside the Karachi Press Club demanding early recovery of the kidnapped doctors including Dr Imtiaz Waggan, who is the faculty of Dow University and Dr Azhar Ali Shah. The protest was held in collaboration with Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) and Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).
The demo was led by Professor Junaid Ashraf, Principal Dow Medical College while Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, Secretary Health, senior professors, teachers, doctors and faculty members of the varisty participated in the demonstration. The protestors, who were holding placards and banners, chanted slogans for early recovery of the kidnapped doctors. Professor Junaid Ashraf in his address to the media said that the incidents of kidnapping had caused a great unrest and insecurity among the doctors' community.
"Doctors cannot work in an environment of insecurity and now many doctors are leaving the country," he added. Professor Ashraf said that the entire medical community was united for the protection and safety of doctors, paramedics and nurses in the country. He requested the government and law enforcement agencies to take prompt action to recover the kidnapped doctors and assure safety of other working doctors. Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi expressed sympathies with the families and assured them of their full co-operation.
