Argentine football legend Diego Maradona said on Sunday that he rewarded the players of Dubai's Al Wasl team with 5,000 UAE dirhams (1,360 dollars) each, after their recent victory against the Emirates team. The reward, which he said comes from his own money, is for their 2-1 victory in the UAE league on Friday.
The game took place shortly after Maradona's return from Argentina, where he attended the funeral of his mother. Maradona has been coaching the Dubai-based Al Wasl since May and has signed a two-year contract.
