Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi says she will run in upcoming by-elections and is confident that democracy will come to the military-dominated county. Suu Kyi was speaking Wednesday by webcast to the Council of Foreign Relations in Washington, soon after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arrived in Myanmar on a groundbreaking visit.
Suu Kyi said she supported increased US engagement with Myanmar's government to encourage continued reforms that have seen it shift from five decades of direct military rule.
